Description

The Earthquake AWS6-B70 is a versatile 6.5″ surface-mount speaker designed for commercial, residential and outdoor audio installations where reliable performance and flexible system design are important. Its built-in 70V/100V multi-tap transformer makes it suitable for distributed commercial audio systems, while the 8Ω bypass allows it to be used with conventional home audio amplifiers and receivers.

Built for demanding environments, the AWS6-B70 features a durable molded PVC enclosure, UV-treated construction, rust-resistant aluminium grille and bracket, and sealed acoustic components. With IPX4 ingress protection and a 6.5″ polypropylene woofer with a butyl rubber surround, it is designed for indoor and outdoor applications including marine environments, patios, hospitality spaces and commercial background music systems.

The supplied mounting bracket supports vertical, horizontal or corner installation and allows up to 180° directional positioning, making it easy to aim the speaker where coverage is needed. The enclosure can also be placed on a shelf or other suitable surface using its integrated feet.

Flexible 70V/100V or 8Ω Installation

The AWS6-B70 gives installers the flexibility to choose between 70V/100V distributed audio and a conventional 8Ω speaker system. For commercial installations, the transformer taps allow the speaker power level to be matched to the amplifier and the number of speakers on the line. For standard home audio applications, the rear selector can be set to the 8Ω bypass.

The 70V/100V and 8Ω modes are not intended to be used simultaneously. The correct impedance or transformer setting must be selected before connecting the speaker to the amplifier.

Installation Flexibility

The AWS6-B70 includes a versatile mounting bracket that can be installed vertically, horizontally or in a corner. The speaker can be positioned through 180° to direct sound towards the required listening area. Two 1/4″ threaded inserts on the rear also provide alternative mounting options.

For outdoor installations, positioning the speaker under roof eaves can help reduce continuous exposure to direct sunlight and precipitation. The manufacturer also recommends using weatherproof speaker cable that complies with local requirements for wiring on or through buildings.
